I know I’ve been sleeping on my blog. But I’ve been working as a beaver all these months…collecting stuff to fill up these pages in the days to come. So yeah...I ain't a lazy bum after all!
I start with one of my first projects. Take a look at my Nikah ensemble. I took pictures with my trusted Sony Ericsson just to record this dress for posterity. I love my dress, I love the jewellery I have tried to match with it and I love the idea of wearing it and posing for pics J
The challenge was the colour of my dress. Why? Because being a Mallu my stock of gold jewellery was higher than stone. As a result, I didn’t really have much of what I had that could be worn with this dress. As you can see it’s of an Englsih Rose colour with stones and diamante placed all over the dress.
I could not use gold over this predominantly silver and pink background. So I started thinking in the lines of pearl, diamonds, stones etc. And here it is.
My maang tika is a chain which my mom-in-law to be had given me as a gift (one of the many she doles out when it fancies her). It’s a pearl chain with a huge lovely pendant. Since my forehead is large, I had no qualms letting the pendant fall over it.
For the chains, I already had a stone necklace set in gold but I wanted something that would fall well below my neck line. So I trudged off to a trusted jeweller and picked up a pearl chain, with tiny diamonds set in sterling silver looped in, having a semi precious pink stone pendant. It took the colour of my dress pretty well, without overshadowing it.
The bangles, earrings, and rings were not at all a problem. However I fulfilled a long standing wish of mine by buying silver and pink metal bangles which I could wear with the stone and white gold bangles. I loved the red and white glass bangles that girls up North wore during and for some days after marriage. I too wanted to wear something like that. The closest I could come, was buying these lovely metal bangles to match my English Rose palette.
So there, at least one set is over. Now I can relax and concentrate on the other dresses I shall be wearing around that time.
Ah…but I must say there is such satisfaction in building your own ensemble. J
